Oceanside Ocean Stewards

The Ocean Stewards After-School Program is designed to empower teenagers from Oceanside between the ages of 13-17.

Hosted three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday, our expanded learning opportunities program is focused on tutoring, environmental wellness + literacy, career exploration, and surfing.

    1. Enhance Environmental Literacy

      • Equip students with knowledge and skills to support sustainable communities.

      • Develop students' ability to analyze environmental issues and make informed decisions.

    2. Promote Mental Health and Wellness

      • Introduce stress management techniques.

      • Increase awareness and identification of emotions.

    3. Foster Youth Development and Career Readiness

      • Encourage involvement in community activities and projects.

      • Develop teamwork, communication skills, and goal setting.

      • Provide exposure to potential career paths through mentoring and tutoring.

    • Environmental Literacy

      • Workshops and educational sessions focused on ecological and economic sustainability.

      • Practical activities to apply environmental knowledge and skills.

    • Mental Health and Wellness

      • Techniques for managing stress and emotions.

      • Programs promoting emotional awareness and well-being.

    • Youth Development and Career Readiness

      • Community-based projects and activities.

      • Structured mentoring and tutoring for skill development.

      • Exploration of various career opportunities.

    • Target Group: Teenagers aged 13-17 from Oceanside.

    • Schedule: Three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

    • Program Components:

      • Tutoring: Academic support to enhance learning and performance.

      • Environmental Wellness + Literacy: Workshops and activities centered on environmental education.

      • Career Exploration: Activities and mentoring focused on career awareness and readiness.

      • Surfing: Engaging and skill-building recreational activity.

Ready to apply to one of our programs?

Youth applicants should be 3/4 of the following criteria:

  1. Local to San Diego County.

    We serve students from North County San Diego by operating out of Oceanside and Encinitas Beaches.

    We serve students from South County San Diego by operating out of La Jolla Shores and Coronado.

  2. From historically marginalized communities.

    Our mission is to celebrate diversity and create connection to the ocean by providing surfing and environmental education programing to serve families who may not have the resources to participate otherwise.

  3. From a Low Income Family.

    Priority given to students from families receiving federal and/or state assistance such as Section 8 Housing, Medi-Cal, and Cal-Fresh.

  4. Appropriate age for each respective program.
